The Wayatinah Lakeside Caravan Park is located in the central highlands of Tasmania mid-way between Ouse and Tarraleah. The park is located beside Wayatinah Lagoon and surrounded by native bush. It offers 28 powered and 54 unpowered campsites. Platypus and waterbirds can be seen around the lake and other native Australian wildlife often emerge from the bush at dusk or dawn. Wildflowers are abundant and pretty in spring and summer. Firepots are generally available for visitors that like to sit around the campfire and the park owners are tolerant of off-road bike riders while totally non-tolerant to inconsiderate ones. The Wayatinah Lakeside Caravan Park Tasmania is a camp catering for families first and while social gatherings are encouraged, loud music and drunken behaviour are not tolerated. Overnight fees are $16 per adult (aged 17 plus) per night; $8.00 per child (aged 4 - 16) per night and toddlers and infants (aged 0-3) are free. Powered sites are an extra $6 per night per site. Visitor fees (visiting hours 10 am until 6 pm) are $8.00 per adult and $4.00 per child (as above infants and toddlers are free). The Park amenities include toilets, showers ($1 for 5 minutes), clothes washing and drying facilities, a generous outdoor toddlers pool and solar heated 30 m swimming pool (open from late December to until March long weekend), an enclosed tennis court, newly built camp kitchen, an indoor shelter with a BBQ plus a private boat ramp for fishing. We also have a number of BMX tracks to keep the kids occupied. The Lake and surrounding waterways are home to rainbow and brown trout, salmon, and redfin perch - any redfin must not be released alive back into the water. There are lots of great bushwalks in the area including the walk into Taraleah Falls (10-minute drive and then a 30-minute walk on a well-marked path) for the energetic.
