Railton is an RV Friendly town in North West Tasmania close to Sheffield, Latrobe and Devonport. Railton is very small and located app. 20km inland from Devonport (home of the Spirit of Tasmania). Campers in fully self-contained vehicles (water, shower, toilet, sleeping and cooking facilities) can stay at the RV Friendly stop at Railton for up to 96 hours at a cost of $3 per van per night. Railton is primarily an agricultural area, but has a rich history. It was originally called Redwater Creek, and became Railton after the construction of a tramway line in the 1860s. The RV Friendly stop at Railton, Railway Park, is located on The Esplanade, just off Foster Street. Visitors have access to a dump point and potable water. There is a 14 night max stay in any 21 day period - there is a dump point and potable water at this stop. Pets on leads and under control at all times are welcome. Railton is a great little town to visit and this is a great overnight stop. You will find visitor information at The Looking Glass Cottage, where free guided tours of the topiary can be arranged.
